West Virginia lands Seabreeze (Fla.) safety

West Virginia added yet another defensive back to its recruiting class Sunday when Seabreeze (Fla.) safety Jonathan Scott picked the Mountaineers over Clemson, South Carolina and others.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder from Daytona Beach announced his decision at his team's awards banquet Sunday, according to flavarsity.com.

Scott reportedly had scholarship offers from Alabama, Florida State, Auburn, Michigan and a host of other schools. He becomes the sixth WVU recruit who is expected to play in the secondary.

Maybe press bias but on rivals Geno Smith didn't make qb list-he played very well in all-star game in SoCar-check out Tongan on WV recruit list- he's no FAT BOY

Amazing how most of the posters here know how next season will turn out already. The recruiting has gone very well and I think the Mountaineers will surprise some of you. And happyeer, I'm sure we will have a few games, whether we won or lost, that will give you plenty of opportunity to criticize.

Bunch of Pitt fans posting on here. It's ok though, cause we're gonna win the Big East and play in another BCS game. The defense is gonna be awesome, the offense is gonna be better because of the familiarity and the return of great playmakers. The offensive line will be fine because the the guys we lost (are good) are less talented than the guys replacing them in '09. REAL FANS SUPPORT THEIR TEAM AND NOT TEAR IT DOWN, SO PLEASE CHANGE YOUR NAMES TO "CLOSET PANTHER" OR WHATEVER IT NEEDS TO BE AND QUIT CLAIMING TO BE A MOUNTAINEER FAN. Being objective is one thing, tearing down the very thing you claim to support is completely different. Peace Panther fans.

I agree & think the D will be better because of the experience gained by the secondary & maybe some true freshman help, but McCoy gutted us & was the main reason a weak offensive Pitt team beat us.The Col back got 175yds & we couldn't get Cinn off the field either when we really needed too & if you look back their D line gave Pat trouble rushing three. Scooter got banged up a couple of times last year & Neild needs some relief too. Maybe we run the 3 man set because we don't have the depth for the 4 man. Which by and large everyone else uses, puts more pressure on the apposing qb and leads to turnovers.

Great ! Scott may enjoy playing for WVU in his senior year at WVU. It will take aleast three years to get another WVU team to win 2 games a season..

WVU is fine as far as D-linemen. Remeber we run a 3 D-lineman front. Offensive Lineman we are also pretty set considering the players recruited the year before. Fault the play calling all you want on offense last season, but this coaching staff is full of proven recruiters. They know what they are doing recruiting wise and at least in the bowl game we could see where we are going offensively. Let's try to be realistic, but also a little positive. It's still way to early to tell what is going to happen next year. Right now, it's a lot of assumptions...

one thing for sure, we can forget about bcs games and being ranked in the top ten. It's the rise and fall of wvu football. Inferior coaching has already put it's ugly stamp on our offense.Great players are not going to over ride poor inept coaching. Just look at Notre Dame, each year the continue to have great recruits come in, and the team stumbles. WVU fans, take heart, this is only evident of Larry Coker, with the previous coach's players he won a nat.Champ. Once he got seated in , he ran the program into the ground. Here's two great programs with great recruits and poor performances on the field. Common denomonator,,, head coach. This is our problem.

They have more dlineman then you all think. A few guys redshirted last year. Grant from Florida and a couple more whos names are excaping me at the moment. Im sure the coaches know what they need. Might have given up yards, but all that matters is points and I think with a year under them they will be better. Some coaches dont recruit as much as others. Kirlav does not recruit as heavily as the other guys.

I agree with Carolina EER FAN that we need more linemen, on both sides of the ball. That's where games are won or lost, in the trenches.
Great recruiting class in the works. If they all sign, and add a couple more that we're high on, WVU will be set for the next few years on offense and defense.
umwaeer, Bill Stewart will have know, three yards & a cloud of dust, offense at WVU. He likes throwing the rock down field. We'll still run the ball, but the defenses against us will not be stacking the line on us as much any more either.
WVU will be battling for the BE title again in 2009. Look for 2010 and beyond to be very exciting years again.

Our defense is somewhat lacking, though very inexperienced, has some potential. However, this years performance was lacking, again, it's an inexper. crew. Towards the end of the season, the def. gave up an incredible amt. of yardage. If this def. doesn't improve, we are in grave trouble, next season. Again, there is some potential there, we just have to get 110 per cent out of them.
The offense is something else. With the depletion due to expiration of eligibility and etc. a total rebuild of the off. line will be required. Another new offense is going to be installed. Transition seems to be the "every year" word. Hopefully, stewart will land on something ,one of these years, that works. Until then , we will pretty much remain a mid pack big east team.

I would say Doc is really getting us some quality skill players, but with the Tongan still doubtful, the line needs some 4&5 star recruits. Nothing works without the big fellows. On rivals.com it states who recruited whom and Kirlwach(sorry) has only one player as his.

I think we can say that on paper this may be the highest rated group of offensive players ever recruited to WVU in a single class. Kudos to the staff. On defense, with the group of defensive backs coming in, I would deduce that the staff is wanting to upgrade coverages above what we've been getting from the present group, along with adding much needed depth to those positions. I really like the way the D-line is shaping up for next year, they'll be awesome. Offenses of the type we'll be facing in 2009 will require liberal substitutions at virtually all positions on defense. Nice to see some size coming into the defensive secondary. I just hope they can cover and tackle. Somewhere recently I read that we probably need to go back to the offense Nehlen brought to us. Whoever authored that suggestion needs to harken back to Nehlen's last season and check the average attendance figures. Do you want to loose all recruits? Three yards & a cloud of dust left town with Woody Hayes.
