Roundup: East Carolina women down Marshall 61-57
Marshall committed 21 turnovers as it fell apart in the second half en route to a 61-57 loss at East Carolina on Sunday. Alaya Mitchell scored a team-high 15 points for the Thundering Herd (13-11 overall, 4-7 Conference USA) who led by three at halftime. Shay Weaver chipped in 13 points for Marshall. Kristine Mial had a game-high 19 points for ECU (7-17, 1-10) and Chareya Smith scored 16 points.
YOUTH BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT: A girls youth basketball tournament will be held at Chapmanville Middle School March 2-4 for players in grades 3-5. The cost is $75 per team. For more information call Tommy Kirk at 304-784-2870.
MU SOFTBALL SPLITS: The Marshall softball team picked up a 4-1 win over Georgia Southern and fell 7-3 to Coastal Carolina at Conway, S.C. on Sunday.
WVU GYMNASTICS: The No. 24 West Virginia gymnastics team scored 195.175 points, good enough to beat No. 13 Auburn but fall just short of No. 11 Ohio State at the Coliseum on Sunday.
LOGAN LOSES: Luke Saseen scored 17 points Saturday night, hitting 9-of-11 free throws, as host Wheeling Park held off Logan 61-53 in boys basketball. Boo Lathon added 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Patriots (13-5), who avenged a loss at Logan earlier this season. For the Wildcats (13-4), Stevie Browning had 24 points, Da'jon Streeter 14 and Keaton Johnson 10.
WVU TECH BASEBALL: Zach Sizemore doubled three times and drove in three runs as WVU Tech scored a 10-9 win in 10 innings at Tennessee Wesleyan on Sunday.
