QB switches gears, picks Herd over Wake
Advertiser

Marshall picked up three commitments from the weekend's official visits by football prospects, but that was preceded by a pledge from a quarterback who visited the preceding weekend.

Eddie Sullivan of Boca Raton, Fla., considered one of the best pure passers in south Florida, committed to the Thundering Herd and coach Doc Holliday over the weekend. He had been pledged to Wake Forest, but switched gears.

"You guys are bringing in a great coach in Doc Holliday, and I'm looking forward to the future of the program," Sullivan said Sunday. "I'm the only quarterback they've recruited in this class, and I'm just ready to go there and play football."

Sullivan spearheaded the spread offense for Boca, which finished 9-3 in Class 6A, Florida's largest classification. He threw for 2,773 yards and 34 touchdowns, and ran for about 500 yards and six more scores.

He is rated three stars by both Rivals and Scout.com, and played with an offense loaded with potential major-college skill-position players. One receiver is 5-foot-9, 175 pound Terrell Williams, who reportedly is leaning toward Marshall but needs to beef up his test scores.

With a 3.0 grade-point average and a 20 ACT score, Sullivan is fine there. And assuming he follows through and signs Feb. 3, Sullivan will beef up the younger end of the Herd's quarterback corral, with freshman A.J. Graham coming off his redshirt year.

At the older end is incumbent starter Brian Anderson and fellow senior Press Taylor, and 2008 starter Mark Cann, a junior.

Willy Korn, looking to get his Clemson degree and play his final two years of eligibility somewhere else, visited MU this weekend but his plans are not yet certain.

Three other high school players cast their lot with the Herd after weekend visits:

  • Mike Fleurizard, a 6-4, 285-pound defensive tackle from Dwyer High in West Palm Beach, Fla. He played both sides in high school, but reiterated a preference for defense Sunday. He reportedly had offers from Iowa State and Eastern Michigan.
  • Garrett Scott, a 6-4, 270-pound offensive lineman from Coffee County High School in Douglas, Ga. He had offers from Troy, Alabama-Birmingham and Arkansas State.
  • Joe Johnson, a 5-11, 173-pound athlete from New Smyrna Beach, Fla. He reportedly was offered by South Florida, as well as Western Michigan.

Doc needs to stay after Korn. He would be a plus to any program. And he now has maturity to mesh Doc's young program.

I'm glad to see Doc bringing some good recruits in for you guys....I hope he does well in all the other 11 games you play....I'm tired of all the WVU fans bashing Doc and our own program and coaching
