Poachers to pay much higher replacement fees

Under the state's new sliding scale for trophy-deer replacement fees, a poacher who killed this buck would be assessed at least $1,500 in addition to fines for illegal hunting and other violations. Under the old law, the replacement fee would have been $200. Wildlife officials believe the higher fees will help deter poaching.
