ST. ALBANS, W.Va. -- Authorities have identified a man who was killed Sunday night after being hit by a train near St. Albans.

Donald Wayne Evans Jr., 35, of St. Albans, was struck and killed about 11:30 p.m. Sunday on the railroad tracks near Riverside Drive and Russ Street in Amandaville, said Lt. Bryan Stover of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

But how Evans happened to be on the tracks remains unknown.

"There wasn't anybody around who saw it," Stover said. He said deputies are waiting for toxicology results to determine whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.

Evans' body was sent to the state medical examiner's office.
