CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The United Mine Workers political action committee has endorsed U.S. Reps. Nick Rahall and Alan Mollohan, both D-W.Va., in their re-election bids.
UMW President Cecil Roberts called them "the strongest voices for coal and coal miners in the House. ... There have been no stronger voices in the House in ensuring that our government's promise of health care to retired miners and widows was and is kept."
Roberts called Rahall "a tireless advocate for our industry. ... His work to secure the surface mining permit at the Hobet Mine saved 500 jobs. His innovative approach to funding retired miners' health care literally has saved the lives of countless pensioners and widows."
