Thanksgiving events
Hissom Tabernacle will give out Thanksgiving baskets following a 9 a.m. service today at the church, located on the corner of Spring St. and Pennsylvania Ave. in Charleston. Attendees will receive a basket following a program presented by Bonnie Hissom, "Give Thanks in All Things, Right!" The church will also host an open Thanksgiving dinner after their 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, which will include a drawing for a turkey and a ham. The dinner will begin at 12:30 p.m. and take-out boxes will be available. If you need a ride call Tim Blake, 345-4137.
Faith Tabernacle Church will have its third annual Rand Community Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the church. Carry-out dinners will also be available.
Canaan United Methodist Church 401 Roane Street, Charleston, will have its annual community Thanksgiving dinner at 5:30 p.m. November 23. The event is free to the public and visitors are asked to use the Maryland Ave. entrance. Doors will open at 5 p.m. For more information call Frances at 881-2089.
Bethel Baptist Church will be host to the Spring Hill Community Thanksgiving service at 7 p.m. Nov. 25 at the church, 5028 Kentucky St., Spring Hill. The Rev. Church Rhodes will have the message and a mass choir from Spring Hill churches will sing. All community churches are welcome.
Metropolitan Baptist Church will hold a Thanksgiving Day Service at 10 a.m. Nov. 27.
Christmas events
Jim Edens Ministries will present its annual Christmas Benefit Gospel Sing at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at Sissonville High School auditorium. Featured artists will include Brighterside Quartet, Jimmie McKnight, Frontline Quartet, Charlton Jordan and Maranatha Men's Quartet. The benefit sing is a food drive for Union Mission Ministries. Please bring non-perishable food items to donate. A concession stand will be available.
Charleston Christian Women will present "Sharing Christmas," a dinner for both men and women from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 11 at Scarlet Oaks Country Club. Cost is $18. Guest speaker will be Jim Barton of Fairmont, a retired principal who uses humor to share his story. Christian Rollyson of AAA will present travel deals and Sandy Barton will be the guest soloist. Elk River Nazarene Church Adult Choir and Drama Ministries will present the musical, "One of Us" celebrating the mystery and miracle of the manager at 7 p.m. Dec. 5, 6 and also at 10:45 a.m. Dec. 7. The church is located at 143 Dutch Road in Mink Shoals. For information call 342-6052.
The Faithmen's 11th annual Christmas Gospel Sing will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at Lovers Leap Baptist Church in Ansted. Also singing will be the Neals, 3M Men's Choir and the Faith Harmony Boys. Admission is two cans of food to be donated to the Ansted Ministerial Center. A love offering will be taken.
Anniversaries/homecomings
Christ the King Catholic Church, 1504 Grosscup Ave. in Dunbar, will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the rebuilding of its sanctuary after being destroyed by fire in 1980. The theme is "Rising from the Ashes ... A Journey of Faith." "Sing to the Mountains," a Scripture and song service will be held at 7 p.m. today with a reception to follow.
Music
The BrighterSide Quartet will sing at 2 p.m. today in Newton Baptist Church activities building for the building dedication; and also at 6 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Prosperity.
Garrison Avenue Freewill Baptist Church will have a hotdog sale from 1 to 5 p.m. today followed by a benefit sing beginning at 6 p.m. Featured groups will include Faithful Journey, Standing True and the New Prophets. The church is located at 597 Garrison Ave., Charleston.
Fisher Memorial Church will have an old-fashioned gospel sing at 7 p.m. today at the church. Guest singers will include the Humphreys Quartet and New Grace. The Youth and choir will also sing. Refreshments will be served in the Family Center following the music.
Calvary Church of the Nazarene will feature the singing Greenes from Boone, N.C., at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church, located at 606 Lakewood Drive, Sissonville.
Jamie Tolley will be the guest singer at 7 p.m. Monday at Lucy Wilson Baptist Church, Elkview. The church has also cancelled the Thursday night teen ministry service on Thanksgiving, which is usually held each Thursday night at the church.

Karen Peck and New River will be in concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Cathedral of Prayer Baptist Church, 2326 Pennsylvania Ave., Charleston. Admission is free, but a free-will offering will be taken.
Metropolitan Baptist Church Agape Choir will have its annual concert at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Gospel soloist/evangelist Jim Edens will be at Cottageville Evans Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Revivals
Old Kanawha Baptist Church in Pratt will have evangelistic meetings at 7 p.m. nightly Nov. 30 through Dec. 5 with Evangelist Norman Stevens from Kings Mountain, N.C. Regular Sunday school services will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the morning service at 11 a.m.
Special services
The Martin Luther King Jr. Male Chorus will have two services in appreciation of Leroy Robinson, Founder and Assistant Director, at 6 p.m. on Saturday and also at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Featured groups will include the Spiritual Harmonizers and the Men's Gospel Choir from First Baptist Vandalia. Both services will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church located at 1530 Third Ave., in Charleston.
Power House of Deliverance Church, 512 Carver St., in Dunbar will have a special service at 4 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. James Patterson, his choir and congregation of Institute Church of the Nazarene. For information call 767-5633.
The Charleston Black Ministerial Alliance will have their annual Thanksgiving Day Celebration at 10 a.m. Thursday at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church on Lewis Street. Guest Speaker will be the Rev. Roberta Smith, Pastor of Shaffer Chapel A.M.E.
Good Shepherd Free Will Baptist Church 5470 West Pea Ridge Road, Huntington, will have special praise and worship at their 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. services. The Rev. Jason C. Black will be preaching and special singing will be by Blessed. They will also have a prayer meeting at 7 p.m. Nov. 26 that will include communion and feet washing at Altizer Church.
Rose of Sharon Church will have a special service on Sunday for the licensing of Rick Harless. Missions and Evangelist Preston Mathena from the Appalachian Conference, IPHC, will be the guest preacher. The church is located at 463 Walnut St., St. Albans.
Red Oak Christian Community Church on Red Oak Drive in Nitro will have a song and prayer service at 7 p.m. today with music by the New Prophets.
Metropolitan Baptist Church will have a youth service at 6 p.m. Sunday. Minister Donte Jackson will be guest preacher.

Highlawn Baptist Church in St. Albans will offer "Surviving the Holidays," a free one-day divorce care seminar from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the church located at 2304 Jefferson Ave., St. Albans. Childcare will be provided. For information call Mike at 989-3751.
Buffalo Church of God will have a bazaar from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in the church activities building, W.Va. 62 and Church Street, Buffalo, Putnam County. Homemade candy, crafts and baked goods will be sold. Open-face hot turkey sandwich, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, coleslaw, drink and dessert will also be offered for $7. Community Missionary Baptist Church, 920 Amity Drive, will host guest speaker the Rev. Marvin W. Geiger, associate minister of the Pilgrim Home Missionary Baptist Church, at 11 a.m. Sunday.
