American Red Cross will sponsor a bloodmobile drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lowe's, 1000 Nitro Marketplace. A blood drive will also be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at E.I. Dupont, 901 West Dupont Ave., Belle; and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at West Virginia State University, W.Va. 25, Institute. All blood drives are open to the public. George Washington High School administration and the school's Time for Turf Committee will host a community meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Steve Edwards Sr. Field at the school. The school is relying on private contributions to finance the new turf and establish an athletic facility in the South Hills community.
Elk River Community and Education Center and GFWC Elk Valley Woman's Club in Elkview will sponsor a meet-the-candidates event at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Elk River Community and Education Center. From Charleston, take Interstate 79 north to Exit 9. Turn right and go 1 1/8 mile to the four-way stop on U.S. 119. Turn right and go 1/2 mile. Make a left at the first paved road and go 150 feet into the community center parking lot on the left. An elevator dedication begins at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
Central West Virginia Regional Airport Authority Finance Committee will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the Public Use Conference Room, Yeager Airport. The FY09 budget and FY07 audit report will be reviewed as well as other finance-related matters.
Kanawha Family Court Bar-Bench Committee will have a candidate forum and debate at noon Wednesday at the Grand Ballroom of the Charleston House Holiday Inn, 600 Kanawha Blvd. E. All candidates in contested primaries for family court seats have been invited. The audience will be allowed to submit written questions to be answered by each candidate.
Charleston-Kanawha Housing Authority Board of Commissioners will have a regular meeting at 1 p.m. April 28 at 911 Michael Ave.
West Liberty State College Alumni Association and Hilltopper Athletic Club will sponsor a trip to a Pittsburgh Pirates-Philadelphia Phillies baseball game at 7:05 p.m. Friday. The cost is $35 per person and includes a game ticket in outfield box Section 131, round-trip bus transportation, non-alcoholic beverages on the bus, a free Pirates cap, a chance to win cash and prizes, and fireworks at PNC Park. The bus will depart promptly at 5:15 p.m. from Wheeling Park White Palace parking lot. For reservations, call 336-8079.
Madison Elementary School, Uneeda, is accepting enrollment for pre-kindergarten for the 2008-09 school year. Children must be 4 years old by Sept. 1. Bring the child's official birth certificate, Social Security card and shot records when signing up. There is no fee for attendance. For information, call 369-0558, Monday through Friday.
