Eight at-large candidates have filed for Nitro City Council seats, and five people are now running for mayor.
Midnight Friday was the deadline for town residents to submit their candidacy papers for city elections. Offices up for grabs include mayor, recorder and seven council seats.
The mayoral hopefuls are Don Karner, John Montgomery, Richard "Dickie" Collins and Gertie Estep, as well as incumbent Rusty Casto.
Five at-large candidates waited until the Friday deadline to submit their papers. Running for the seats are Robert Fields, James McKay, Shane McComas, Larry M. Angell II, Doug Meadows, Dave Casebolt and incumbents Brenda Tyler and Bill Clark.
Council will approve the petitions for candidacy at its next council meeting Tuesday. City elections are June 3.
